We had a huge ice dam last year and ended up with water seepage in the house. Thankfully, insurance paid for it, but the repair disrupted us for weeks, including many days of multiple blowers running in our house on two floors – way too much noise. Anyway, I picked up a standard roof rake and while it worked OK, it was a lot of work, so I searched the internet for a better option and found the Avalanche roof rake. I was a little nervous as I saw a few reviews complaining about the poles cracking and the vinyl sheet shredding, but I pulled the trigger anyway and drove up to Racine to Douglas Hardware (about an hour from where I live) to pick it up after our first snow fall.
I purchased the model 500 and I’m very pleased with it. I think it will really reduce the risk of a giant ice dam forming on my roof and have already recommended it to several friends.
